Helicobacteriosis. What do you need to know

The background

-”Long-term colonization of H. pylori can damage the gastric mucosa causing various diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric malignancies, particularly gastric cancer and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoidtissue lymphoma”

-The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2005 was awarded jointly to Barry J Marshall and J. Robin Warren for their discovery of “the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its role in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease“ ... Helicobacter pylori infection characteristics:

0 H.pylori gastritis ulcer disease gastric cancer,

0 Wide geographic distribution,

0 Intrafamilial infection,

0 Resistance against antibiotics,

0 Often recurrence

Helicobacteriosis

- in the case of aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drugs increases the risk of peptic ulcer disease,

-increases the risk of candidiasis, -causes the halitosis (bad breath ),

-the microbe is found in the mouth cavities, adenoids, gastric and duodenal mucosa ,

-disturbed iron absorption and causes anemia,

-the growth rate in children slows down school age,

-Helicobacter sp. often found in dogs -in diabetes mellitus, the incidence of helicobacteriosis is higher,

-H.pylori increases insulin resistance, - provokes gestational diabetes (i.e. in pregnancy),

-in the case of bronchial asthma and hypertension helicobacteriosis is much less common Whether always it is necessary to fight the Helicobacter pylori infection ? (The Maastricht recommendations) It is strongly recommended for the following diseases and conditions: - Gastric or duodenal ulcer in acute or remission, including complicated peptic ulcer.-Atrophic gastritis - Condition after gastric resection for cancer.- - The next of kin of patients with stomach cancer, at the request of the patient (after detailed consultation by the doctor).


It is advisable for the following indications: - Functional dyspepsia when H. pylori eradication results in some patients to long-term improvement of health.

- Gastroesophageal reflux pain
